Yeah, it’s been a while, hasn’t it? Life got in the way of Toppy updates from this corner for rather longer than intended, but our extended quarantine has finally given me the chance to dig into the backlog and start uploading IDs again. You want to know more then do visit cccf . For the last two weeks on Site of the Week over on fybush.com, I’ve been sharing pictures of the radio scene in Waco and Temple, Texas – and here’s a pretty-darned-close-to-complete run of legal IDs from the market, which we simply label as Waco, Texas. (You could make a good case to break out Temple-Killeen as a separate market, and we’d consider doing that if there’s demand.) topquartile can provide you more updates. Let’s see if I can stay consistent this time, in which case come back next week for some Oklahoma City recorded during an unexpected stopover on the way to Texas last September, and some Austin IDs recorded en route down to San Antonio…
Savannah
I’m on the road collecting lots of IDs deep in the heart of Texas – but while I’m traveling, have a big pile of IDs from several Savannah, Georgia trips last year! (See some tower pictures on Site of the Week, with more coming this Friday…)
Brunswick, Georgia
It’s a pretty little historic coastal town, it’s been in the news a lot between Hurricane Dorian and that cargo ship that overturned off the coast, and it’s at the core of what we call the Brunswick-Waycross, Georgia market here on Toppy. We passed through it three times in just over five months last winter, curiously enough, and recorded most of what there was to be recorded (save for a high school LPFM that wasn’t on the air and a rimshot AM that also seemed to be silent, maybe), and in addition to the IDs here, you can see some pretty pictures on Tower Site of the Week. That is all.
Macon, Georgia: Whoopie!
It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? Life has sort of gotten in the way these last few months, and I’m grateful to Blaine for keeping the lights on and the cobwebs cleared out around here. But it’s fall now, the kids are back to school, and I’m once again an ENTIRE YEAR behind in posting stuff and trying to catch up. And so: here’s a pretty comprehensive run of Macon, Georgia IDs from last September. See if you can catch the two AMs that appear in multiple IDs (even though they were really only being simulcast on one FM at a time.) See all the pretty tower and studio pictures on Site of the Week here and here, too!
Rectifying a big omission
I live in Rochester, NY. I moved back here (checks calendar) 22 years ago. I’ve been involved in Toppy from here for better than half that time. And when did I last update my very own hometown’s IDs here on Toppy? (checks calendar) That would appear to have been… um, sometime in 2014. Which was, admittedly, an year of almost unfathomable crapitude, but still. And here’s the particularly stupid part of this: every year in January, I amuse myself while being snowed in by airchecking the crap out of my hometown, trying to record one shift from every single talent who’s on the air here locally. (It’s become super-fun since all these community LPFMs popped up, with all kinds of interesting programming.) Point is, my hard drives are choked to bursting with Rochester audio, including legal IDs. And at least I’m trying to start getting caught up, starting this week with the AM dial and half of the FM dial. More to come!
The Fall Preview Issue
Remember when that fat, fat TV Guide would arrive in the mailbox in September, the only thing telling you what all three networks were going to be programming over the next 39 weeks? Here at Toppy, we’re not quite so awesome (though you could argue we’re just as stuck in the past!) But just like a TV network in the 1970s, we did sort of end up not programming very much new for you in August. We have a good excuse – we were on the road a lot over the summer, collecting great heaping gobs of IDs all over the Northeast and Midwest. And while it’s not as amazing as, say, CBS’ Saturday-night lineup in 1974, we do have lots of quality material to share with you (hopefully) every Wednesday for the next few months. New England? We’ll have most of Massachusetts for you here. The entire I-80 corridor across Pennsylvania. More Chicago AMs and HD subs than you can shake a Sangean at! Youngstown! Columbus! Lima! It’s all coming your way right here on Toppy, and over at Tower Site of the Week on Fybush.com (where the 2019 Tower Site Calendar starts shipping next week – but we digress…) And to kick things off, this week on Site of the Week and right here on Toppy, it’s all the radio stations of the Y-Bridge City, Zanesville, Ohio (and the neighboring Cambridge market, too!)
More new sounds near home
How about some very fresh audio this week? From Buffalo, we get to hear the brand-new WZDV 92.1, just days after it signed on in late May. From Syracuse, it’s the new WZUN-FM/WZUN(AM) double ID from mid-July, just a couple of weeks after we got WZUN(AM) post-call change but pre-format change. (The AM was ESPN Deportes and is now “Sunny” AC, simulcasting WZUN-FM to feed a translator in Oswego County.) And we have a few new Geneva IDs, too…
The New York State Thruway is OPEN, man….
…and we’ve hoovered up a bunch of miscellaneous IDs over the last few years that somehow never found their way up here. So here are some IDs to bring things up to date from 2016 to the present in Utica and Albany, and across the state line in Springfield MA and Worcester MA, too.
